Whiting council adopts water emergency ordinance

The City of Whiting is not currently in a situation where water supplies are low — nor, according to Whiting City Clerk Kristin Watkins, has it been in such a situation in recent years.

But just in case such a situation arises, the city now has an ordinance that dictates how the northeastern Jackson County community will respond to it.

The Whiting City Council recently approved a water drought/emergency ordinance that Watkins said is a requirement of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

“Every town has to have an emergency preparedness plan,” she said.
