Shooter apprehended after Friday incident here
An Ozawkie resident has reportedly been charged with attempted first-degree murder after an alleged Friday afternoon shooting incident in Holton, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse.
Joshua Joseph Myers, 23, was identified as the alleged shooter in the incident, which reportedly occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue, Morse said.
Myers is currently being held at the Jackson County Detention Center on $300,000 bond. The Detention Center’s Web site lists attempted murder in the first degree as the sole charge against Myers at press time; no documentation was available yet at Jackson County District Court.
According to Morse, Myers allegedly fired a 9mm handgun at another man who was standing across the street from him before leaving the scene. The intended victim was not injured in the incident, he said.
It was reported that Myers had been seen driving south out of Holton at a high rate of speed in a blue Mitsubishi Eclipse, which was located in Denison about 10 minutes later, Morse said. Sheriff’s officers initiated a car stop, and Myers was taken into custody.
The matter remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Holton Police Department, Morse said.
