Rural residents required to register pit bulls, similar breeds

Rural Jackson County residents are reminded that they need to register or re-register their dogs with the county each April if those dogs are pit bulls or a hybrid of that breed.

“It’s helpful for the county to know where they are at,” Jackson County Commissioner Rob Ladner said of the dog breed. “It provides a heads up for our first responders and emergency personnel.”

In 2015, the Jackson County Commissioners approved a county resolution that requires owners of certain dog breeds, who live outside city limits, to register each year at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and also pay a $25 fee.
