Royal Valley community rallies around youth with cancer
The Royal Valley community is rallying around a Mayetta family whose six-year-old son has been battling cancer this past year.
Easton Shelton, a kindergarten student at Royal Valley, was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) last July and is now in remission, according to his parents, Eric and Steffani Shelton of Mayetta.
After noticing that Easton’s tummy was larger than normal and that he wasn’t acting right, the Sheltons took him to the doctor on July 6 last year.
“His tummy was big because his spleen was holding onto all his red blood cells and platelets so he was also very pale,” Steffani said.
Easton was referred to an oncologist and hematologist, and the next day, it was confirmed that lymphoblasts were present in his blood and that he had leukemia.
