Penner offers exploring tips at Founders Day dinner

For Marci Penner, eight is a magic number.

Penner, who founded the Kansas Sampler Foundation in 1993 with her father, the late Mil Penner, told those present at this year’s Jackson County Historical and Genealogical Society’s annual Founders Day dinner that each and every one of Kansas’ hundreds of communities has eight things that sets it apart.

That, Penner said, is what led to the Sampler Foundation’s “Eight Wonders Of Kansas” guidebook that was designed to spotlight those eight facets ― architecture, art, commerce, cuisine, customs, geography, history and people.

Jackson County, she added, is no exception, spotlighting the county’s communities in her presentation, “Exploring The Nooks And Crannies Of Kansas,” on Thursday at Holton’s Trinity Lutheran Church.
