Parade of Lights is Saturday

Santa Claus will participate in the Christmas Parade of Lights at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, riding on a Holton Fire Truck.

The 15th annual Parade of Lights participants will line up on New York Avenue north of the Casey’s store and then proceed around the Town Square.

The first Parade of Lights was held here in 1999. After a one-year, hiatus, the Parade of Lights has been held here every year since.

The Farmers State Bank is offering a $50 Chamber Bucks prize for the Best Religious entry in the Christmas Parade.

The Holton National Bank is offering a $50 Chamber Bucks prize for the Best Club or Organization entry in the parade.

The Holton Recorder is offering a $50 Chamber Bucks prize for the Best Business entry in the parade.

All police, sheriff, fire and safety departments are invited to take part in the parade, along with all area churches, clubs, service organizations, businesses, schools and families!

There is no charge to participate in the Christmas Parade of Lights and participants may show up on the day of the event and participate.

Several churches will be represented in the Christmas Parade, such as Evangel United Methodist Church and Buck’s Grove.

Some 4-H clubs, such as the Lucky Stars, also plan to participate in the parade.

Several Holton and Jackson County emergency preparedness vehicles also are scheduled for the parade, along with some Holton city street vehicles, such as the new street sweeper.

City and county elected officials are also welcome to participate in the parade.

Some businesses are also expected to be represented in the parade – such as the Denison State Bank carolers.

Some vehicles – such as those driven by Judy Olson and Carrie Saia – are also expected for the parade.

After the parade, hot cocoa and cookies will be offered at the Holton Community Hospital Home Health and Hospice location on the southwest corner of the south side of the Town Square.

Also, after the parade, Santa Claus will meet with local children at the first floor lobby of the Jackson County Courthouse and have his photo taken with the kids. Sahra Meddock of Captured Creations By Sahra will be taking the photos.

Some businesses on the Square are expected to stay open late that evening.
