Olympic gold medalist visits Jackson Heights
Olympic gold medalist bobsledder Curt Tomasevicz challenged Jackson Heights students on Friday to face their fears and set and surpass their goals as they go through life.
“Winning doesn’t mean having the most points on the scoreboard,” Tomasevicz told grade school students Friday morning. “It’s doing the right things even when no one is watching.”
Tomasevicz, who also spoke to Cobra middle school and high school students later in the morning, is a native of Shelby, Neb., a town of 690 people. His graduating class had 25 students.
“Growing up, my mom wouldn’t buy me a Nintendo because she wanted me to be the best version of myself,” he said. “She wanted me outside or reading.”
