Morning accident near hospital injures two

U.S. Highway 75 north of Holton was closed for more than an hour this morning after a two-vehicle, two-injury accident that occurred at the entrance to Holton Community Hospital.

Paul B. Krogman, 83, of Holton, and Daryl L. Compton, 62, of Topeka, both received injuries in the accident, which occurred at about 6:55 a.m. today on U.S. 75 at Columbine Drive, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

The report stated that Krogman, driving a 1993 Ford pickup north on U.S. 75, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Columbine Drive when his pickup was struck by a southbound Mack semi-trailer truck, driven by Compton and pulling three trailers for United Parcel Service. The Mack truck and trailers then turned over in the west ditch.

Krogman, who reportedly was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident, was taken to nearby Holton Community Hospital for treatment of injuries received in the accident. Compton, who was properly restrained, according to the KHP report, reported an injury but was not taken to the hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, it was reported.
