Miller enters plea deal in December armed standoff

A Holton resident charged with three counts of attempted capital murder in a December armed standoff with area law enforcement officers has pleaded no contest to a reduced set of charges and will face sentencing in late May.

During a Friday morning hearing in Jackson County District Court, Patrick Wayne Miller, 31, entered the no contest pleas to a charge of attempted first degree murder and two charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer in connection with the Dec. 3 incident.

District Court Judge Norbert Marek accepted the plea and set a sentencing hearing for Friday, May 25 in district court. Miller will remain at the Jackson County Detention Center until the hearing date.

The plea deal was announced during a scheduled preliminary hearing where Miller agreed to waive the hearing and proceed to arraignment.
