Meet Your Doctors: Dr. Stephannie Gilkey-Nicol

Note: This is the 14th story in a series about doctors in our community.

Dr. Stephannie Gilkey-Nicol, D.C., 41, has worked as a chiropractor for 16 years, with 14 of those years in the Jackson County community.

A native of Garfield, Dr. Gilkey-Nicol received her undergraduate degree at Park University where she played volleyball and basketball for two years. She then went on to Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City where she received her doctorate of chiropractic.

“Ever since I was 12, I knew I wanted to become a chiropractor,” Dr. Gilkey-Nicol said. “I have always enjoyed helping people and love to see people respond to chiropractic. Most people want a magic pill. I love chiropractic because it is a natural approach and treats the cause, not just the symptoms of a problem.”

She and her husband, Mitchell, have seven children between the two of them, Montana, 22; Mikyla, 19; Reilly, 17; Carson, 15; Hayden, 11; Brodey, 6; and Emersyn, 4.

The family also raises longhorn cattle and own 10 horses, four dogs and one cat.

Her hobbies include attending her children’s activities, working out and spending time with family and friends.

“Health is your most valuable possession,” she said. “Make healthy eating habits, exercise daily, get good sleep and, of course, get your spine examined by a chiropractor to make sure your central nervous system that controls and coordinates every muscle, tissue and organ of the body is functioning properly.”
