Meet Your Doctors: Dr. Samantha Rieschick

Dr. Samantha Rieschick, D.D.S., has been practicing dentistry for four years, the last two of which have been with Holton Dental.

Rieschick, 28, is a native of Wellington who graduated with honors from both Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. She said she was inspired to take up dentistry after job-shadowing her hometown dentist.

“My next door neighbors growing up were a young husband and wife dental team who mentored me and later inspired me to pursue a dental career myself,” Rieschick said.

She met her husband, Soldier native Ross Rieschick, at KSU, and the two of them returned to Jackson County after their college years. They have a daughter, Isabelle, who is seven and a half months old.

Rieschick said she and her husband knew they wanted to live in a rural community, and Holton fits the bill nicely. She joined the Holton Dental team after expansions at the practice were completed in 2013.

“I love the fact that Holton is a smaller, intimate community — not only because I feel it’s a great environment to raise my children in, but also because it’s nice as a medical professional to work closely with other medical professionals from other areas of expertise and to have those resources close at hand,” she said.

Rieschick, a member of Soldier Christian Church, enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering, traveling, reading and playing piano.

When asked what piece of medical advice she would recommend most to her patients, Rieschick replied that it is best to bring children in to see the dentist early, by their first birthday or six months after their first tooth emerges.

“Tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease — five times more common than asthma and four times more common than early childhood obesity,” she said. “Bringing them in at a very young age not only helps them get comfortable at the dentist’s office, but more importantly, it gives us the opportunity to counsel parents on the best ways to prevent cavities and how to get their children started on good oral health habits right from the start.”

Rieschick can be reached at Holton Dental by calling 364-3038.
