Mayetta resident arrested after motorcycle chase
A brief motorcycle chase and subsequent crash led to the arrest of a Mayetta resident on Thursday night, Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said.
According to Morse, Tyler Michael Area, 20, has been charged with fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and operating a motorcycle with no motorcycle license in connection with Thursday's incident.
At about 9:30 p.m. that day, a Jackson County deputy attempted to stop Area for a traffic infraction on U.S. Highway 75 south of 142nd Road, Morse said. Area had reportedly been riding a 2001 Aprilia motorcyle north on U.S. 75 when the deputy signaled him to stop.
Instead, Area reportedly continued north with the deputy in pursuit, then turned east onto 142nd Road before losing control of the motorcycle and crashing a short time later. Morse said the pursuit lasted about a minute.
Local first responders and EMS personnel were summoned to the scene of the crash, where Area reportedly refused medical treatment, Morse said. Area was then arrested and taken to the Jackson County Detention Center.
Bond for Area is pending at the present time, the sheriff said.
