JM Sewing Center to host grand re-opening
JM Sewing Center is hosting a grand re-opening Saturday at its new location on the west side of the Holton Square.
The event is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center, which was relocated to 405 New York Ave. on Dec. 1. Michelle and Jerry Meddock own the business.
“We were looking for a place with more space in order to host more classes,” Michelle said of the move from the northwest side of the Square. Their former location is available to rent.
JM Sewing Center now resides in the building that formerly housed Dale’s Antiques & Used Furniture. The Meddocks took ownership of the building on Aug. 29.
“We painted the inside of the building and redid the flooring and opened up some of the small rooms in the back so we can hold classes and workshops,” Michelle said. “In the future, we would love to have a quilt gallery upstairs.”
The ceiling in the building was also restored using original tiles. The extra square footage is already proving its worth, Michelle said.
“Our customers absolutely love it,” she said. “They can sit at a sewing machine and play around with it and not be in someone else’s way. Plus, this also makes our lessons more private.
JM Sewing Center has been offering sewing machine sales, service and repair to northeast Kansans for a year, and the grand re-opening on Saturday will feature machine demonstrations all day at the center, as well as Quilting On The Square. A drawing will also be held for a sewing machine.
