JH, RV to host proms this weekend

With the onset of spring comes the annual high school tradition of prom, and this Saturday, Jackson Heights and Royal Valley students will be stepping out to honor that tradition.

The theme for this year’s Jackson Heights High School prom will be “City Of Lights,” a theme that prom sponsor Katie Morris said centers on Paris.

JHHS students and their dates are scheduled to start arriving at the school for the prom starting at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, followed by the prom dinner at 7 p.m. in the JHHS gym. Heights alumna Kaitlyn Little is scheduled to be the dinner’s guest speaker.

The dance, with music provided by Wing Productions, will be held in the gym from 8 p.m. to  11:30 p.m. That’s followed by post-prom activities at Jackson Heights Elementary School from midnight to 2:30 a.m.

Also on Saturday, Royal Valley High School students and their dates will once again congregate at the Kansas ExpoCentre’s Heritage Hall in Topeka for their prom. This year’s theme, it was reported, is “Welcome To The Party,” a “Great Gatsby”-themed event.

Family members and friends of students will line up near the entrance to Heritage Hall from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. as students and their dates arrive. The dance will be held from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., followed by post-prom activities at Southwest YMCA in Topeka.

Holton High School’s prom activities are scheduled for next Saturday, April 21, it was reported. More information on prom activities will appear in Monday’s Recorder.
