Food donations, volunteers still needed for Christmas Dinner
Those who come to the annual Community Christmas Dinner will find no shortage of turkey or ham to keep them full, but dinner organizers noted that other food items are needed for the dinner.
There’s also plenty of help to go around with several volunteers already signed up, according to dinner organizer Freda Galer.
“I’ve already got all my turkey cookers,” Galer said. “The only workers I need are servers.”
Galer and others involved with the annual event are hopeful for a high turnout for the dinner, to be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 25 at the EUM Family Life Center. The dinner is open to everyone, regardless of age, income, residence or religious affiliation, she said.
Food items now needed for the Christmas dinner include three gallons of baked beans, six gallons each of corn and sweet potatoes, 30 dozen rolls, 13 Jell-O salads, 16 fruit or vegetable salads, 25 pies and 11 cakes.
Galer also noted that most of those getting involved in the Christmas dinner are doing so for the first time.
“Except for two people who are doing turkeys, all the other people who are volunteering are new,” she said. “It’s nice to get so many new people involved.”
Galer also encouraged those who want a Christmas dinner delivered to them to call her at 364-4160 by 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24. Galer may also be reached at that same number for those who wish to make a food donation or pledge volunteer services for the Christmas dinner.
Monetary donations also are being accepted for the Christmas dinner; contact Francis DeVader at 364-2507 for more information.
