Five students named to All-State Academic Team

Five area high school seniors were named honorable mention as part of the Topeka newspaper’s 2015 All-State Academic Team.

The list, which was announced on Sunday, included:

* Kelcie Matousek of Holton High School. She is the daughter of Carl Matousek and the late Eileen Matousek. She has been accepted to The University of Kansas where she will study genetics and photography.

* William Patterson of Jackson Heights High School. He is the son of Vern and Mary Patterson and will study animal science at Kansas State University.

* Brandon Broxterman of Royal Valley High School. He is the son of Matthew and Jennifer Broxterman, and he plans to study engineering at Kansas State University.

* Kyle Kimmi of Atchison County Community High School. He is the son of Gene and Angie Kimmi and plans to study mechanical engineering at Kansas State University.

* Keri Pfrang of Wetmore High School. She is the daughter of David and Ginny Pfrang. She has been accepted to Wichita State University and will study business.

Members of the 2015 All-State Academic Team were selected based upon academic, musical and athletic honors, as well as community service and involvement.

More than 230 students in the Jackson County area are set to graduate from high school in the next two weeks.
