Festival of Roses set at Muscotah

The ninth annual Festival of Roses will be held Saturday, June 6, at Muscotah City Park and activities will include a car, tractor and motorcycle show, a parade, a rose tour, a garden tractor pull and several friendly competitions. 

The full day of events will kick off at 8 a.m. with the start of the car, tractor and motorcycle show. The show will be located downtown along the highway. The vehicles will be on display until 2 p.m. For more information, call Bill Speer at 785-872-3171.

Food and refreshments, including homemade root beer, will be served at the Muscotah City Park, which is located on Kansas Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The parade start at 10 a.m. 

Hayrack ride tours of rose gardens in the town will be given throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A quilt show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A variety of games for children and adults will be held that Saturday. A trike-a-thon will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. and participants must bring their own kiddie push or pedal toy. All participants will get a free ticket for the train ride.

For the older kids and adults, there will be a bicycle obstacle course. Those participants will get a free cold pop or snack from the concession stand.

Participants are also encouraged to decorate their bicycle or tricycle. For more information about the bike and trike events, call Wanda Small at 785-872-3244.

After the bike and trike events, a ping-pong ball scramble will be held at 10:30 a.m.

A rifle and handgun competition will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The annual garden tractor pull is set for 11 a.m. with weigh-in at 10 a.m.

A tractor parade will be held at 11:30 a.m. Local entertainment will be provided from noon to 3 p.m. with a surprise at 12:30 p.m. Additional games for kids will be available from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

A story time will be held at 2 p.m. and men can compete in the men’s good-looking legs contest at 2:30 p.m.

The awards ceremony for all the day’s events will be held at 4 p.m. Flea market vendors will be set up throughout the day in the park.

Muscotah is located 10 miles east and seven miles north of Holton along Kansas Highway 9.
