By Carson Taylor

Lots of kids think their mother is the best in the world for lots of good reasons. I think my Mom, Paula Taylor, is the best in my world.

Mom and I have a special bond. It may be because I was born 6 weeks early and spent those weeks in the hospital NICU before coming home. Mom had to do lots of extra things for me when I was a baby, and today I am strong and healthy.

Mom is always there to help me along. She helps me make sure all my homework and papers are packed up each day before heading to school. We have a morning ritual where she kisses both of my hands, and I kiss both of her hands, before I leave. I hope we keep doing that even as I get older.

I have a fun Mom. She is always looking for something exciting for me and my family to do together or just with me. It can be here in Holton, like getting a slush to drink after school, or it can be taking me to a big-city museum or KU basketball game. She watches me play basketball and helps me improve. She makes every holiday fun, from New Year’s Day through Christmas. She always gets into the holiday spirit and likes to see her kids enjoy holidays.

Mom is nice, sweet and pretty. She is happy all the time. She is responsible and does the right thing.

She deserves a Happy Mother’s Day every day of the year.

By Norah Kelly

(Mother: Inga Kelly)

My mom is the best for many reasons.

First, she takes wonderful care of me. She feeds me healthy meals that are delicious, like salads, she helps me fix my hair because it’s too long for me to do it all by myself, and when I am sick she gives me medicine, reminds me to rest, and buys me lotion tissues.

She also does fun things with me. She takes me on trips to my Grammy and Pop’s house in Nebraska, she takes me shopping, she takes me to the library, we play nail salon at home, and when we bake things together, I get to help.

She helps me in lots of ways too. She helps me with my homework every night, she helps me practice my piano and figure out the hard parts, she helped my write my News-o-Matic contest story, do the interview, and take the picture that was on their app today, she helps with things I am doing at school and church, and she helps me solve my problems when I get frustrated. She even helped me type my essay for this contest because I am still learning typing and I don’t have an email address.

These are all the reasons my mom rocks and I love her so much!

By Taihler Felps

(Mother: Neoma Felps)

My mom is the best mom because she is very caring and every time she walks in the room she says “I love you.” She is an amazing mother and she helps us through anything and everything you can think of. She takes care of us a lot and if it was just me, my dad, and my brother we would be a mess.

My mother is a very hard worker and she tries very hard at everything she does. If you work with my mom you can tell that she likes to be busy all of the time. If she is not busy she goes and tries to find someone to help. My mother is amazing mother and friend and she is much loved around town.

By Karlie Albright

Age 11

(Mother: Barb Albright)

Barb Albright is my mother and she means the world to me. My mom is so important to me and excellent. My mom always says that she is always so tired and I know she is. She runs my sister and I everywhere. I love her just as much as she loves me.

She takes me to softball, 4-H, school events and much more. She takes time off to come to the fair and she helps me with my quilt. She spends the money for vacation and for my family to have some fun. I have tried very much lately to help around the house and do things without her asking me to do it. I try to clean more and show her how much I love her. I love putting up the Christmas tree with her and decorating it with her because I feel like I could not have a better mother. When she helps me with my homework we sometimes disagree but I know that that is how every ordinary family is.

What I love to do the most with her is cooking and going to the mall with her. I cook dinner with her sometimes and help her get the ingredients out. When we go to the mall we always eat and just walk around and look for things like gifts for graduations coming up.

My sister and I tried to do something and buy her George Strait tickets for her and my dad. She told us that they were too much for us to buy but she told us she loved the thought so much. I will always appreciate my mom now and forever. She is very special to my family and I! No other mom can replace her. She means the world to me!!

Mothers play an amazing role in your life like raising you, preparing home cooked meals for you, cleaning up after you, or teaching you a thing or two. My mother happened to do an amazing job at all of those things. There has not been a time in my life when my mother has not stopped what she’s doing and gave me a hand when I asked for help or needed her to do something for me. She has taken care of me for the past 17 years of my life and I can honestly say she couldn’t have done it a whole lot better, she has helped me become the person I am today.

Of course we have our ups and we have our downs but for some reason my mother has never given up on me. She manages to find a way to fix the problem and make everything better. My mother is there with me every step of the way, from helping me with homework, giving me advice on life, teaching me something new, or helping me with a challenge, I know she will always be there just like she said. My mother is hands down the best mom around because she loves me for who I am and always knows the right thing for me to do.

By Erika Platt

Age 16

(Mother: Jeanette Mohler)

My mother is the best because she listens to my woes. She’s the best because she’s always to my rescue. I can’t describe her love. It’s like she has waited her whole life to comfort and protect me from the blows of life. She knows exactly what to say, how to say it and best of all it really doesn’t matter what she say’s, all I need is the sound of her voice to feel like everything is better again.

She may not be my mom from birth but she’s played the role of both a mother and a father. She scolds me for my faults and praises me for my accomplishments. She holds my hand when I need someone to take my fears away. She picks me up when I don’t have the strength to walk anymore. She’s the strongest person I know.

She’s the best because she’s not perfect. Not perfect to the world. Not perfect in the eyes of God. But to me, she is my world and she is perfect in her own way.

She always looks at the world with open eyes and an open heart. She never frets and she never lies. I can hold her to her promises and even though she is not here physically, she is here, always in my heart. She will never leave. Even being so far away she is guiding me through life. If it wasn’t for her raising me and guiding me through life, who knows where I’d be. My mom knows my past and doesn’t judge me for it. She’s the best because even through her heartbreaks and through her challenges that life throws at her, she doesn’t take her eye off the ball. Me. Some moms are just there because they have to be. My mom is there because she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. She has all the characteristics a mother should have.

She’s loving, caring, she’s everything that a mom should be. I don’t know exactly what I would do without her. My mom may not be up to the standards of other people but she is everything that I could ask for.

She’s a mom. That itself takes courage. Being a dad as well, is something so extraordinary. It takes a lot to be a dad as well as a mom.

My mother is the best mother because she is able to put with all of me. And when I say all of me that means my often attitude, my non-stop talking, my school and work schedule, and all the other different activities I’m in. She is the best mom I ever could ask for. My mom is always there to try and help me with homework or at least attempt to help. She is always there to motivate me and cheer me on. All the support, love, and care that my mother gives me is what makes her the best! She gives me everything I need and then some even when I don’t ask. Thank you mom for all that you do for me.

When the word “mother” is looked up in the dictionary the definition will be something along the lines of, “a woman in relation to a child or children to whom she has given birth,” but in my mind there is so much more that goes into being a mother than just giving birth to a child. Being a mother is an all around the clock job that will take every ounce of love, energy, and patience that she has. Once a woman makes the decision to bring a child into the world she no longer gets the option of having no responsibilities because her child/children will depend on her for everything.

At the young age of twenty four my mother decided to bring her first child into this world followed by four more in the next few years to come. My mom’s the best because having five kids was a lot of work yet she never gave up. We were a handful and probably just about drove my mother insane but she loved us anyways and never failed to show it.

My mom’s the best because despite her five very loud, very messy children, she still found time to do the housework and keep everything tidy and in place. Somehow she managed to keep everyone’s schedules organized and on top of this, tried her best to attend all of our activities whether it be a sports game, a dance recital, or a music concert, you can bet she did everything she could to be at every single one of them.

My mom’s the best because having five kids left little to no alone time for her. She was constantly busy dropping us off and picking us up from sports practices, dance classes, friends houses, you name it. Every ounce of her time and energy was poured into her kids every single day. Not to mention all of the money that has gone into raising five kids. We may not have had a lot of money growing up but my mom always made sure we had what we needed to make us happy. Growing up I never really understood how much she gave to her children and how much she gave up for us but as I’ve grown older it’s all slowly become clearer to me.

As I think back over the years of my childhood I realize that I may have taken my mom for granted and not fully appreciated all that she has done for me. I’m not entirely sure how my mother does it and looking back I realize how truly blessed I have been to have such an amazing mother. My mom is the best because she has always been there for me and while we’ve had our ups and downs I wouldn’t trade her for anyone in the world because she means the world to me and I wouldn’t be who I am today without the love and support she has given me every single day.

My mother is the best for infinite reasons. She’s one of my best friends. I tell her everything, and she loves our relationship because of that. She literally knows all of my lame friends drama. Because rather she wants to, or not, she listens to me. All of my friends love her, she is like a teenager. She text lol, makes fun of me, tells me when i’m being dumb, and sometimes she will talk like a baby to me. She’s weird, and other times she won’t let me go to bed because she is awake and doesn’t want to be lonely. My mother is the best, because even when she knows i’m being dumb, she still supports me. Rather it’s from going back to my ex or cussing out one of my friends.

My mother is the best, because she loves me. She buys me the food I absolutely love, even though she knows it will be gone in a day. She makes and brings me sandwiches and I do the same for her. We kind of have a system like, I made you two sandwiches, you owe me. All of my friends think she is epic and call her mom. I don’t think I have but one friend who has actually met her and doesn’t call her mom. It makes me laugh. When me and all my friends walk out in the morning, “Bye mom, love you.” “Bye, mom,” “Love you, mom” and between each one she responds, “Bye sweetie, have a good day,” or “Bye sweetie, love you too.”

My mother is the best because she rubs my belly when it hurts, and makes pervy jokes with me. She is just as weird as me. My friends love her, aparently, she is a cool mom. My mother is my best friend, my confidante, my supporter, and most of all, she’s my mom. I couldn’t live without her. She is by far, the best mother I could ever ask for. I love her and appreciate her all the time, even if I don’t always show her that, or even tell her.

Why is my mother the best? Well let me tell you. Usually a student would not be too happy about being grounded, or they wouldn’t like the rules laid out at home. Lastly the average student probably would not be over joyed having to do chores around the house. But seeing as though these are all bad things I will explain to you why they make my mom great.

When people were in elementary school the usual punishment for being grounded was no television or no dessert for a week. But now being in highschool the typical punishment is no driving for 2 days and no cell phone charger. My mom doesn’t even have to enforce this she has raised me to know that if I do the right things, or if my grades do not slip I will not get this treatment.

The rules in my house are pretty normal, do not stay out past curfew, be on time to things and lastly always do what you are told. As an elementary student I thought these were pretty hard things to follow. But as I grew up they became easier to understand they were set up for my well being.

And lastly are the chores that I used to think were terrible. Carrying firewood and learning how to weed the garden. But all of the chores or lessons given to me by my mother were just making me a smarter and stronger person.

All of these life lessons that my mother taught me have made me who I am today. Even the little things she does everyday like make me dinner or do all of my laundry before my volleyball games, these actions show me she cares. The discipline she gave me as a child showed me that hard work and cooperation can give you the tools you need to succeed in whatever you do.

My Mom is the best Mom ever because she takes very good care of me and my sis and she does a lot of things for us. She makes sure we are all well fed and she buys us clothes when we need them and she also makes sure our clothes are clean but she has provided a lot for the whole family. She also buys us things we don’t need but that’s not what make her awesome. What makes her awesome is that she loves us all the same. She is the best mom I could ever have. We love her and she loves us. She comes home from work, makes sure I got my homework done, I got my chores done, then she makes sure I have clothes on my back, I’m fed and my little sis and dad as well.

She does sooooooooooooooooo much for me. I could not thank her enough for everything she does for me and my dad and my little sis as well. She helps me when I’m sad and she also helps me when I get hurt and that’s what makes her awesome!!!!!!!! She always does things for me and I always give back in return. That is always what I loved about her and she does the best she can in everything she does. She will never give up helping her family and that makes her rock! She stands up for me and my sis. And last but not least I love my mom and she loves me.

My mom is the best mom in the world. She gives me tons of things that are expensive.  She takes me to Worlds of fun.  She has 2 jobs and takes care of 5 kids. Takes them to softball and baseball games and goes to track meets. She takes us to school every morning and then goes to work. She helps us with our homework and then coaches my 2 little sisters softball team from 5:30pm to 6:00pm. She lets us join camps during the summer; she even takes us there.  She takes time off work to take us kids on vacation.  She has taken us to lakes in Missouri. Every year for each of our birthdays she takes us out to eat. Every Sunday when she doesn’t have to work we get dressed up and go to church. She loves all of us very much. She takes us to Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and parties at our Grandmas house. She goes shopping and gets us stuff goes to our school concerts and lets us be in band.  She bought my clarinet for me and also bought my reeds and cork grease. She lets my sister be a cheerleader and helps with donating to Relay for life.  She takes my sister to track meets and games for her to cheer.  Lets us have friends over.  Takes us to my grandma’s just to see how she is doing.  She takes us out to eat if we are good in church and we have time.  She takes us to the movie theater sometimes.  Signs us up for sheriffs’ camp in the summer and helps. She even makes my brother to help with her. I am her greatest fan I love her!!!!!

It is May 1, 2015 and I am writing this about my amazing mother for mothers day. People ask why, I say “Because… Shes the best” I’m here to tell you why she is the best.

Well lets see, Shes mama bear, she is been in my life forever. She is the type of person that will stand by me through thick and thin, someone who will tell me when i’m wrong. She is the person who provided nourishment when I was young. She is the person to stay at home with me when I was sick or hurt.

It was July 20, 2014, my mom and dad were heading back from a canoeing trip in Missouri. Me and my little brother were at home, playing the Xbox 360 we had. I hear a sizzle behind our fish tank, so I walk over and black smoke starts to rise. I was smart and 911 was on scene in about 5-7 minutes. When I called my mom to tell her the news, of course she was crying but she was also very happy to hear my voice. When she finally got home, she saw me, and she started to cry again. She told me that I did the right things to keep us safe.

Anytime I was having flashbacks or nightmares she would be the first to ask, “What’s wrong Trey?” I would tell her that everything was fine, but she could see right through my lies, she could see how scared I was. Her just being there was enough to make me feel better. We finally got back in our house after three and a half months of living in a hotel.

My mom is the best, because she is the most selfless person I know. She will go without, as long as someone she cares about has what they need. This kindness isn't just limited to her own family and kids, but extends to other peoples children. She’s not just a Mom to my siblings and I, but to my friends, and the numerous kids she's coached in basketball, or Junior Bible Quiz.

For her own kids, my mother always does the best to make us smile, and see us happy. My brothers and I can be sure a day won’t go by where she doesn't tell us she loves us, and asks how our day was. Things like this are just subtle things she always does to make sure that you know she cares about you. After all, isn’t that the job of a mother? To care and nurture a child, and do their best to make sure they’re happy.

To my friends, my mother is the mom that is always going to say yes to having more kids over to spend the night. If my friends and I go out to eat, and I call her on our way back asking if an extra four boys are welcome at her house you can be sure that the answer will always be yes. She loves having my friends over, because they’re more than just friends they’re family. She gets a great deal of satisfaction out of making our home feel like their second home.

For all the kids she coaches and has coached, my mom is superwoman. For example, just last week she started her day off at work, before meeting me at my doctor’s appointment to hear my diagnosis, then leaving to go deliver burritos from a fundraiser at my dad’s work, all before she drove to Dallas later that week to coach her Junior Bible Quiz team in Regional competition, before she takes them to Nationals later this year for an unprecedented fifth straight time. Despite what many people think, children take notice of this and truly appreciate it.

No matter what role my mother is playing she always puts other people and their happiness before her own. It’s evident to everyone around her and they truly appreciate it. This is why my mother is the best, and I love her for all the things she does for not only my brothers and I, but for my friends, and the kids she is such a great example too.

The best mom? Yeah, I know her. When you think of the best mom in the whole entire world, who is it that pops into your head? For me, I see my mother’s face instantaneously. I can see her smile and hear her laugh. I can feel her warmth and taste her recipes. The love that I feel for my mother is deeper than my heart and soul, it’s something that forms in my cells and pulses through my veins. Simply a love that you have to be born with. A love that reaches unconditional horizons.

Everybody that comes into contact with my mother would say they feel similar way. My mother has a charismatic sensibility that opens rooms, fluffs up pillows, and leave a lingering happiness in the heart. My mother puts others before she puts herself. At work she uses her time and energy to ensure that other’s don’t have to. She is willing to leave the house early every morning, give her all, and then come back home to us. I am thankful that she is willing to work her hardest and persevere to her fullest potential every day. Not only does she show me and my siblings a good role model but, she is able to give our community someone to look up to. I’m glad to share the best mom with other’s that need her as much as I need her.

All the way up to this point in my life, my mother has been there the most. She has been the one to help me dye easter eggs, brush my hair behind my ears, let me blow my nose on her shirt and even pick out a prom dress. I hope that through all of that, she too can say the same about me. I appreciate and love my mother to the ends of the earth and three times around and I hope that one day I can be the best mom.
