Locals brave rain to attend Memorial Day ceremonies

Lucy Ryff (third from left) and area veteran Franklin Peuker (second from right) carried a wreath and flowers to the Civil War memorial at Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony in Holton Cemetery, conducted jointly by Holton’s American Legion and VFW posts. Looking on in the background were local veterans (from left to right) Bob Schiffbauer, Ryff’s grandfather; Les Crawshaw; John Chiles (partially hidden); and Gregg Moser. About 100 people braved Monday morning’s rain to attend the ceremony, and other visits by veterans' groups to other Jackson County cemeteries that day were noted despite the day's rain.
